• The small scale, DIY publications – self published artists’ books, chapbooks, zines, pamphlets – may combine text, image, graphics, drawings, creative, fictional or critical works, and use a variety of materials.

  • There is no  specified format for the publications, they might be small pocket sized books or larger newspaper formats; using a combination of printing and binding techniques, the publication must be Risograph printed.

  • Selected artists will have access to Rabbits Road Press (for the purpose of their project) for four Wednesdays (7, 21 Nov, 5, 19 Dec) and access to materials and printing up to the value of £50. Technicians will be on hand to help in each session. In additional there will be one weekend access day available to award winners (date tbc with artists).

  • Each artist will be responsible for the content, design and print of their publication.

Key Dates

Deadline for proposal: 2nd November 2018. Commissions announced: 6th November 2018. Completion deadline for publication: 31st January 2019.

The edition size may vary but we will need 6 copies to be donated by each commissioned artist to be housed in Rabbits Road Press and selected Newham libraries, archives. However, you may wish to produce more copies as part of your edition that can be distributed or sold as you wish.

Selected artists are expected to have finished their books by 31st Jan 2019, Rabbits Road Press will work with the artists on the presentation of their work as part of an exhibition. Selected artists must be available to take part in the exhibition on the 23rd Feb August. There will be an artist’s fee of £200 (£100 for runners-up) for your time and expenses and towards the production costs of the edition.
