Rabbits Road Press Zine Library

Rabbits Road Press Library is an informal library of wide-ranging zines collected by OOMK across a variety of international collaborative projects since 2013 now held onsite at Rabbits Road Press (in Old Manor Park Library) for visitors to look through during Open Access. Cataloguing our zines is an ongoing process but we are excited to begin sharing what we have with you so far.

The Malaysia Collection

ZINES AND SMALL PRESS

This collection consists of around 40 Malaysian zines and independent publications beautifully varied in content with a strong focus on poetry, the punk scene in Malaysia, photography and perzines. Most of the zines are written in Malay and we would be interested in hearing from any Malay speakers who might like to volunteer more detailed descriptions of the zines. If you would like to search the entire list of publications enter “Malaysia” into the catalogue search bar.

A bit more....

The zines collected along the way were shared with everyone who had taken part at Zine Canteen, a one-day gathering for zine lovers co-organised between ourselves, Odd One Out and Awesome Canteen. In addition to zine stalls, a mobile library and a free workshop on zine-making, Mas Shari (Asst Editor Odd One Out) convened a panel discussion about independent publishing between Hamizah Adenan of Odd One Out, Rose Nordin of OOMK and Nizang of KL Zine Fest/Mosh Zine.

The Chicago Collection

ZINES AND SMALL PRESS

This collection of zines consists of 30 zines and independent publications we collected during our trip to Chicago predominantly featuring work produced by the fantastic self-publishing project Temporary Services and Half Letter Press, special thanks to founder Marc Fischer for his support. Here you will find zines exploring the urban geography of Chicago, public library interventions and unusual archival discoveries. If you would like to search the entire list of publications enter “Chicago” into the search bar.

A bit more....

This collection came about as a result of an OOMK research trip to Chicago in April 2017 as part of The Arts & Social Practice Fellowship between the British Council and Logan Centre for the Arts, University of Chicago. We were hosted in Chicago by the wonderful Chicago-born, Palestinian author and artist Leila Abdelrazaq. The collection was exhibited at Rich Mix as part of DIY Knowledge, a DIY Cultures Festival exhibition in 2017.

During our time in Chicago we took part in the panel discussion “Self-publishing for Activism” at the Gray Center for Arts and Inquiry where panelists Leila Abdelrazaq (author and artist), Marc Fischer (Temporary Services), Tempestt Hazel (independent curator) and Sheika Lugtu (cartoonist and researcher) shared their perspectives on the different ways that artists and activists in their communities are self-publishing for activism.

A thank you to Glasgow Zine Library’s Mel Reeve who hosted a fantastic online workshop Radical Cataloguing (June 2020) during lockdown that laid out the steps that enabled us to get started and to zine specialist and librarian Leila Kassir whose guide “A Lawless Appendix: Five Suggestions for Zine Libraries” in The Library' Was proved an invaluable resource.
